In 1954, the badly deteriorating and overcrowded Carnegie facility was torn down and a contemporary six-story facility that held 433,000 books was built in its place. While construction was underway, the Library was housed at the City’s busy train depot, Union Station.

When the new building opened, it featured a listening library, special programming for young adults, and several research units staffed by subject-matter specialists. The building, located on the corner of Commerce and Harwood Streets, is still standing today.

1907 Rosenberg Library, Galveston, Texas

Rosenberg Library has offered over a century of community service to the Galveston area. The building itself was dedicated on June 22, 1904, the birthday of its patron, Henry Rosenberg. The Moody Memorial Wing opened in 1971, more than doubling the floor space and allowing for a children's library, a history center, several galleries to showcase museum collections, and later, a computer lab.

Kemp Public Library, Wichita Falls, Texas

In the 1890s Flora Anderson Kemp (1861-1957) and other women in Wichita Falls circulated books among friends. After many attempts to begin a library, Mrs. Kemp in 1916 asked her husband, pioneer businessman Joseph Alexander Kemp (1861-1930), for a public library building as a Christmas gift. In 1918 Kemp presented the main structure of this building to the citizens of Wichita Falls. [SOURCE: Texas Historical Marker]

This is an August 4th 2005 first day of issue with a Presidential Libraries stamp honoring the Presidential Library of Lyndon B. Johnson.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Postal Service honored our Presidential Libraries with a commemorative postage stamp to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Presidential Libraries Act of 1955. “The U.S. Postal Service is proud to conduct these First-Day-of-Issue dedication ceremonies at all of the nation's Presidential Libraries and Museums. These are truly national treasures,” said Postmaster General John E. Potter. “The new stamp will help honor the libraries' unique role in preserving and extending access to Presidential materials while recounting the lives and times of many of our nation's Presidents.” [SOURCE]
