Shedd-Porter Memorial Library, Alstead, New Hampshire. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Boston architects William H. McLean and Albert H. Wright, it was built in 1910 as a gift from John Graves Shedd and Mary Roenna Porter.

The Shedd-Porter Memorial Library is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as well as in the New Hampshire Register of Historic Places.

Osceola Library, Waterville Valley, New Hampshire

The Osceola Library is one of those small town gems.  The library is housed in what was once the town’s one-room schoolhouse. Built in 1885, this charming building was originally located along what is now the fourth fairway of the Waterville Valley Golf Course. It was moved to its present location at the corner of Boulder Path Way and West Branch Roads, across from Snows Mountain in 1955.  The building initially functioned as a town meeting place and later as office space for the Waterville Company.

Nichols Memorial Library, Center Harbor, New Hampshire

A native of Meredith, New Hampshire,  James Edwin Nichols (1845-1914) found  success with business ventures in Boston and New  York.  As a managing partner Austin-Nichols (NYC), he supplied canned goods to small retail grocers across the Northeast and Midwest. In 1909,  Nichols offered to build and endow a library for Center Harbor as a memorial to his parents.  The holdings  of  the Center Harbor Library Association (1889), a private collection,  became the core of the new Nichols Library.  In accordance with his wishes,  the Library was to be   ‘free and open to all,’  which it remains to this day.
