Shedd-Porter Memorial Library, Alstead, New Hampshire. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Boston architects William H. McLean and Albert H. Wright, it was built in 1910 as a gift from John Graves Shedd and Mary Roenna Porter.

The Shedd-Porter Memorial Library is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as well as in the New Hampshire Register of Historic Places.

1909, Carnegie Library, Alexandria, Minnesota

[LIB11242] - The Alexandria Public Library is one of 65 public libraries built in Minnesota with funds from Andrew Carnegie and the Carnegie Corporation. The Alexandria Public Library is a one storey building that rests on a raised basement defined by a smooth stone water table. The exterior is faced with light brown pressed brick with an ashlar gray limestone base. The roof is a low, hipped covered with asphalt shingles. The Beaux Arts inspired building has nine bays on the main facade and the entrance consists of a three bay portico featuring two fluted columns and four brick pilasters. The emphasis on the entrance space creates a grand opening to the interior of the building and is characteristic of Carnegie Library design. At the time of construction the interior was furnished with quarter-sawn white oak furniture, the majority of which was produced by the Alexandria Manufacturing Company purchased in 1903 specifically for the new library. The Akin Free Library on Quaker Hill is a historic eclectic late Victorian stone building in the hamlet of Quaker Hill, town of Pawling, Dutchess County, New York, USA, listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a historic place of local significance since 1991.

The Akin Free Library was a gift from the Quaker Albert J. Akin (1803–1903), founder of the Bank of Pawling and the Mizzentop Hotel on Quaker Hill. The building was designed by the architect John A. Wood and constructed in the years 1898 until 1908. [Wikipedia]

In 1886, John T. Perry was instrumental in forming the Exeter Library Company to raise money for a library building and in May of 1892, the town meeting appropriated $15,000 towards the construction of a library building. The new library was finished in 1894 at 47 Front Street, the current home of the Exeter Historical Society. It was designed like a Carnegie library on a smaller scale with a central rotunda and reading rooms on either side. It was built as a memorial to the 300 Exeter area men who served in the Civil War.

[LIB10136] - In 1901, the Library trustees contacted Andrew Carnegie, famed steel magnate and philanthropist, who was then actively engaged in bestowing Library buildings on worthy communities in the United States and Scotland. Carnegie agreed to supply a town library and sent architect’s plans along with $20,000. The school Directors purchased a lot of land at Second Avenue and Main Streets. The new Library building comprised of Avondale Stone and Indiana Limestone with a high covered ceiling was opened to a grateful public in September 1902. Miss Elmira W. Pennypacker was appointed as the first Director in the new Public Library building. [Website]

1909 New Krauth Memorial Library, Mt. Airy Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

[LIB10108] - The Krauth Memorial Library, with 198,000 volumes, includes material dating back to the 16th century, including 18th century work Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, known as the Father of American Lutheranism. The 300th year of Muhlenberg's birth will be celebrated in 2011. The library 100th anniversary of scholarship and service fell during the 2008-2009 academic year, and the facility includes the original glass flooring and metal shelving in the main space. 1909 Woodland Free Library, Cleveland, Ohio

[LIB9865] - The first building on the present site was a small Methodist chapel. At its inception, Woodland Library was described in the 1904 Annual Report as: “a one story colonial structure of brick, with stone trimmings, in a setting of green lawn, flowers, and shade trees.” The entrance opened into a wainscoted vestibule with a leaded glass partition. In the corridor hung Ongania’s St. Mark’s.

In 1957 the building burned down and was rebuilt  to open in 1961. The new Woodland Branch is a low-slung modern one-story building.
