Construction of a new ‘Carnegie Library’ began in 1913 and was completed in 1915.  Dedication of the new Cresco Public Library was held on February 10, 1915.

From 1857-1901, UIU had only literary society and department libraries, and for a short time there was a library housed in College Hall (Alexander Dickman).  In 1900 Andrew Carnegie donated $25,000 to build a library to be named in honor of his friend, David B.  Henderson, first speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from west of the Mississippi.  Mr. Henderson had attended UIU in 1861 but did not finish his college studies as he left Upper Iowa to fight in the Civil War.  The David B. Henderson Library , a two-story building above a high basement, measuring 87 feet long by 70 feet wide, was dedicated November 11, 1902, during the inaugural celebration ceremonies for president Dr. Thomas J. Bassett.  The office of the President and the Treasurer were located on the first floor.

In 1961 a third floor stack area was added to the library. In 1969 the library was renamed Henderson-Wilder Library when the Wilder addition was added with major renovations to the old Carnegie building, increasing total square footage to 43,563. The Wilder addition was named in honor of Frank Wilder, class of 1897, and his wife Mary whose estate gifts made the completion of the addition possible.

Visitors to Perry often start their journey at the Carnegie Library Museum.  Built in 1904 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie, the building initially served as the town’s public library.  Now restored to its 1910 appearance, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places.  Still a working library, its collection includes many of the library’s original 1,000 titles, as well as special collections of midwest literature, women’s fiction, children’s books, and books on literacy and libraries.  Visitors can also explore stories through temporary exhibits on view here.  The Court Room on the basement level recreates a brief time in Perry’s history (1907-1917) when this room served as the town’s courthouse.  Also on the basement level, the Women’s Room tells stories of the bonds formed between women who spent time here when they came into town from neighboring farms. The Carnegie Library Building in Carroll, Iowa, United States, is a building from 1905. The 60-by-38.5-foot (18.3 by 11.7 m) structure was designed in the Prairie School style by Omaha architect Thomas R. Kimball.  The Carnegie Corporation of New York had accepted Carroll's application for a grant for $10,000 on February 12, 1903. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
