Public Library, Bay City, Michigan

[LIB7244] The first free library was sponsored by The women's club in 1912. Three moves later, in 1923, property acquired by the Industrial League Men became the permanent location. From a cottage on that lot evolved this structure erected in 1965 under The Library Association supervision.

The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library, Wakefield, Massachusetts

[LIB7244] In 1916, the townspeople purchased a lot at the corner of Main and Avon Streets for $16,000. That same year, Junius Beebe, son of Lucius Beebe, donated $60,000 (average annual salaries at that time were around $700) toward the construction of a new library building, to be built in memory of his parents, Lucius and Sylenda. The cornerstone was laid on March 17, 1922 and the building was dedicated on April 15, 1923. The original building is still in use as a public library though there have been extensive renovations.  [Website]

Other areas of concentration are the Mississippi River, the Gulf of Mexico, and the South. 1945 Pettee Memorial Library, Wilmington, Vermont

[LIB7242] Mr. Lyman Pettee came along and gave funds for a new library to be built.  Mr. Pettee, who grew up in Wilmington and also went to school here, named the building after his parents Anson and Lucy Pettee, PETTEE MEMORIAL LIBRARY. The building was completed in 1906 and is still the home of Wilmington’s public library today.  [Website]
