Post Library, Schick General Hospital, Clinton, Iowa
[LIB2753] - Amazing by today's standards, Clinton's bustling Schick Hospital was built in less than a year on about 100 acres of former farmland and the city's old Root Park.
It emerged at a cost of about $2.5 million, well under its initial budget, with "first-class" everything, said Jone Trumpeter of rural Clinton, who recently published a book of newspaper clippings about the Schick Hospital era. "It had a gymnasium, a theater, an Olympic-sized swimming pool," she said. "There were maybe 62 or 63 buildings." [Website]
