[LIB4403] - Special Digital Collection: Pioneer Churches

100 Years Old or More - Remnant of the Immigrant Experience

As immigrants settled in their new communities, a place of worship was usually established. These pioneer churches were a gathering place for the immigrants and reflected the values they brought over from their homeland. Michael Cooney, photographer, has documented some of the churches that still exist in Wisconsin. He has located and photographed churches in Winnebago, Fond du Lac, Marquette, Calumet, and Waushara counties. [From the website]
