[LIB6513] - "Admonitions to the library assistant have been many — so many, in fact, that she sometimes wonders whether she is supposed to have any initiative and will-power of her own or merely live by the rule of "thou shalt" and "thou shalt not" as laid down by others. It is an encouraging thought, however, that, although every library has more or less definite staff regulations, the very qualities that make for the most professionally are not usually set forth in codes of rules." - The Assistant's Opportunities to Serve Her Library. By Florence D. Love, Public Library, Decatur, Illinois. 1919.

1922 Library, Decatur, Illinois
[LIB2541] - As the library grew, the need for a new building arose and by the turn of the 20th century, plans were in place. The Decatur Public Library Building, located at 457 N. Main, was built at a cost of $65,000. A grant from Andrew Carnegie paid for most of it. The cornerstone was laid on June 16, 1902, and the building was opened to the public on July 1, 1903.
By 1970, the library was in need of a larger facility and obtained the building on 247 E. North Street which had recently been vacated by Sears. This building served until 1999, when the library moved to its current location on 130 N. North Franklin Street. [From the website]

Library, Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Georgia

- 1910 - the Andrew Carnegie Library was the college's first library building. A gift of Mr. Carnegie, it was on the southeast corner of the main quad. That building was demolished in 1986, having served first as library then as a student center ("the Hub") after the new library was constructed.
-
1935 - In May, 1935, the college Board of Trustees authorized construction of a new library.
-
1936 - The new library opened in the fall of 1936. Still called the Carnegie Library, it consisted of 4 main floors, a grand reading room, and an attached "stack tower" of 7 floors.
-
1951 - The library was renamed for James Ross McCain, on the occasion of his retirement as the 2nd President of the College. [SOURCE]
