The Conway Public Library began as the Conway Village Library Association. The Conway Woman’s Club and other interested citizens created this Association in 1895, providing library services to the community until the present building was dedicated on June 13, 1901. [SOURCE]

The Schœlcher Library, Fort-de-France MARTINIQUE
The Schoelcher Library in Fort-de-France is a Byzantium edifice first built in Paris for the Exhibition of 1889, then dismantled and shipped to Martinique. There the whole building was re-assembled in 1893, luckily not in the then-capital of Saint-Pierre, because on May 8, 1902 Mount Pelée blew and instantly wiped out that city and everything in its path of boiling hot lava. As it looks now!The building, once known as "The Cross Keys Inn," was constructed around 1825 and was used in its earliest years as a tavern and stage coach stop. In 1864 it was purchased by Joseph Priestley's great-grandson who remodeled it for his home and medical practice. The building remained part of the family estate until 1925, when Mrs. Frances Priestley Forsyth donated the house and her books to be used as a public library. In 1981 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [SOURCE]

First Day of Issue: America's Libraries 1982
First day of issue, Washington DC 21 April 1982 shows a Library of Congress 20 cent stamp, the Library of Congress building in Washington DC, and the James Madison Memorial Annex.In 1957, Librarian of Congress L. Quincy Mumford initiated studies for a third Library building. Congress appropriated planning funds for that structure, today's James Madison Memorial Building, in 1960, and construction was approved by an act of Congress on October 19, 1965 that authorized an appropriation of $75 million. Excavation and foundation work began in June 1971, and work on the superstructure was completed in 1976. The cornerstone, inscribed with the date 1974, was laid on March 8, 1974. Dedication ceremonies were held on April 24, 1980, and the building actually opened on May 28, 1980. [SOURCE]

Prior to 1912, private companies controlled the delivery of parcels throughout the U.S. There was a lot of money to be made delivering theses parcels, and the private companies lobbied heavily against the U.S. Post Office entering the business. Unfortunately, just as it is today, the more lucrative markets were where the population densities were the highest, meaning rural areas and particularly farmers were not getting proper service. On August 24, 1912, Congress approved a law providing for parcel post service and authorized the production of stamps to pay the parcel fees, to be effective January 1, 1913. [SOURCE]
Preston Library & Museum Virginia Military Institute LEXINGTON VA
Published by "Whitman's Phototypes" Canton PANamed for Colonel J.T.L. Preston, the library was built in 1939 as a joint venture between the Virginia Military Institute, the State of Virginia, and the Works Progress Administration. Preston Library was dedicated on 11 November 1939, as part of the Institute's centennial celebration. Members of the Preston family were present for the ceremony. Governor James Hubert Price gave the dedication speech and President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered a congratulatory address via a telephone connection wired to the public address system. In 1972, the building was enlarged and in 1996 renovated. Recent activities during the summer of 2007 included the renovation of the Reference Room and restoration of the original 1939 terrazzo floors. [SOURCE]
