1959 Carlson Library, University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Connecticut
[LIB7463] The University Library had its beginning in 1927 in one room in Fairfield Hall, site of the newly-chartered Junior College of Connecticut. In 1947, when the Junior College was reconstituted as the University of Bridgeport, the Library was moved to the University’s seaside campus. In 1955, after a period at Fones Hall, the library at last occupied a home of its own in the newly-constructed Carlson Library. A new east wing was added in 1961. In 1972 groundbreaking took place for a new building and in 1974 staff and collections moved into the new Magnus Wahlstrom Library. [Wesbite]
1984 Library, Shepherdstown, West Virginia
[LIB7462] When it was built in 1800, the Market House that today houses the Shepherdstown Public Library offered local farmers a sheltered place to sell their wares, and a centrally located spot for residents to buy farm fresh products. During its long history, it has, in turn, been home to the fire department, the town council offices, a butcher shop, a school and the local jail. A pigpen and a public whipping post were located in back. Today, it is the home of a thriving library that is literally and figuratively the heart of Shepherdstown. The building—the most distinctive in Shepherdstown and the one most frequently noticed by visitors—is West Virginia’s longest continuously occupied library building. [Website]

1909 Bridge Memorial Library, Walpole, New Hampshire
[LIB7236] In 1891, Hudson Eliot Bridge erected the present library building as a memorial to his father, Hudson Ernestus Bridge. A two-room structure, the Bridge Memorial Library was given to the town complete with furniture. The present day Reading Room retains the feel of an old-fashioned library, while the Stack room remains what it has always been -- a room to store books. In 1961, another room was added in order to cope with the library’s space needs. This room is now the Children’s Room. It is open and airy and provides space for children’s programs as well as easy access to books for younger patrons. [Source]
